Great spot for beer garden drinking and dining with plenty of seating inside. Don’t be fooled by the front of the bar as the beer garden in the back is awesome and spacious. They gave Belgian, Scottish and German beers on tap.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brel Bar is a lovely place with a very nice and creative decoration that gives it a unique character. I really liked the atmosphere—it was relaxed and welcoming. I ordered the hamburger with chips, and everything was very fresh and tasty. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d happily visit again.
It’s good for drinks, but I’d avoid the food There’s a student deal during the week which is decent, £4.50 cocktails, and some cheaper beers etc but still quite dear. Paying a premium for a lovely atmosphere however. It’s really well decorated and constructed with some nice design patterns in mind. The food was severely disappointing. Not real poutine with cheese curds. Gravy was alright, but the chicken was dry and the steak wasn’t seasoned. The mac n cheese was just bad, the person eating couldn’t finish it. Pretzel bites with the fondue was a total waste of time. May sound harsh, but it’s just sad when everything else about the place is so nice. Staff are really cool tho, so I would say it’s good for a wee drink now and again. Cheers for some nice evenings :)
Only good thing I can say about this place is the drinks were nice. Everything is overpriced, we were situated in the garden hut (shed thing?) that has a fire pit in the center. We asked the staff to turn on the fire pit within the shed and were met with a dismissive attitude as if we were inconveniencing them, just for the fire pit to not be put on. We then waited about 20 minutes for three drinks, the service is concerningly slow considering it wasn’t that busy as we went on a Thursday. We then had to ask again for the fire pit whilst we went to the bar. During this interaction another customer came up and asked for her phone and charger from behind the bar, the staff member told her to wait two minutes whilst she finished. The customer apologised and said that’s alright. As previously mentioned the service is shockingly slow so the girl ended up politely grabbing her own phone and charger as it was right at the end of the bar, the girl then left. The staff member serving us (who was the one who told the girl to wait) then sat and bad mouthed the girl to another staff member, calling her a name and saying if she wanted to charge her phone then she can wait until she’s finished to give her it back. Have your opinions but not in front of other customers. The shed we were in was also very clearly not cleaned before we arrived. The windows were opened in the shed when we arrived. When the fire pit was lit the staff member said we had to leave the door to the shed open (fair enough), my friend then asked if we could just have the windows open. The lady very condescendingly told her that the windows didn’t open, my friend then went to say they were open when we came up and she said they aren’t MEANT to be open. I would avoid, don’t waste your money here unless you want to feel like you’re back in high school with people being rude and condescending. Also it’s £12.50 for a double vodka lemonade.
I absolutely love Brel, nice and cosy during winter and good fun vibes in the garden area when the weather is nicer. We tried the Chocolate Fondue which is amazing, lots of goodies to dip in and to balance it out we had the baked Camembert and the poutine. It was beautiful, I’d highly recommend.
