Beautiful courses consisting of starters, mains and desserts. All were extremely tasty. The sweetcorn soup was delightful and both the duck and cod mains were superb. Possibly the best cooked duck breast I've had, so very tender and succulent. Service was exceptional. We wouldn't hesitate to return next time we are in Glasgow. Some of the nicest, tastiest and well balanced plates of food we've had. A nice drinks menu also!
Pay attention when you’re walking down Byers Road in Glasgow. If you don’t, you may just miss the greatest gem you never went to. It’s unassuming frontage does not do the experience you could have any justice. Number 16 is standout. I was fortunate enough to be out with my wife and in-laws who are from the city and were very familiar with the restaurant. I, ashamedly, had never heard of it. Stepping through the plain cover of this book, you are slowly impressed and begin to understand how serious this tale actually is. Everything is in the detail of the decor, the bespoke crockery (all with the number 16 I layer), the lovely welcoming soft touch from Ailee (I hope I spelt that correctly) and the setting of the table. Once sat, your water is almost instantly served ensuring you are acknowledged. Our menus are presented quite classically as Ailee kindly request the person in charge of wine before presenting the list (all beautifully printed and bound). I am selected for this heavy task. Everyone is quick to decide on food, the pressure is on to choose the wine. The Weissbirgunder (£43 and mid list on their whites) is my choice and an incredible example of a Weissburgunder it is. Ideal for our meal as we were fish heavy. From start to finish, service and food was impeccable. A modern European menu for lack of a better description. Uniquely put together however familiar to our palates. Pauses were necessary after every bite to fully enjoy and appreciate what had been put in front of us. Conversations were interrupted with every morsel. At times we struggled to remember what we were talking about. It would have been an insult not to try a pudding so we had 2 between the 4 of us. A strawberry delight and a decadent chocolate curse. Coffee to revive (and it was good coffee). My wife noticed they made a couple before we got served ours signalling attention to the pour not being quite right. Most likely adjusting the grind in order to get it just right. This did not go unnoticed. A trip to the kitchen had to be made to commend the chef at end of our meal and was met by such humility. As if it were normal/expected to cook at this level (which I find a tendency with so many great chefs). Fewer and fewer places have this. A level of service that makes you feel welcomed, acknowledged and instills a sense of belonging coupled with top tier, mouthwatering cooking. You guys are why people eat out. You create something special, unique and memorable but, most importantly, don’t forget the most important thing about our industry which is hospitality. As a family of 4 we booked this restaurant to celebrate a very important family occasion. We we're not disappointed, we all had a fabulous meal , everything was amazing from start to finish, its a small restaurant with a lot of character, the staff we're friendly and attentive and the food was brilliantly presented and very tasty . I would highly recommend Number 16 and will definitely be back !
Lovely cosy Restaurant. Friendly attentive staff. We are foodies and I could litterally eat the coley over and over again it was so tasty. We couldn't faut anything and we will be back.
Undeniably, the best restaurant on Byers Road (and possibly all of the west end). Exceptionally designed food, that the kitchen staff have clearly put passion, thought and care into. Each plate is feast-able with the eyes and mouth. The whole vibe of the place is fantastic, its warm and welcoming with simple touches to make it feel like your sitting at home with friends. The menu is a great read, with too many interesting dishes to try. Service is smashing in here, there was only one lady on for lunch, but she was so helpful and happy to cater to the whole restaurant. Food was brought swiftly and wow is it worth the short wait. Packed with flavour no decision is wrong here. The fish broke apart perfectly and was caressed by such a lovely creamy sauce. The pork I cannot deny is something I wish I ordered too, the crackling on there was salty and crunchy, better than anything you can get in a shop! Every dish served from starters to desserts put a smile on my face, and thank goodness my friends are happy to share, because not a single thing didn’t impress me. We even got a splash of drama that the waitress filled us in on, where some people refused to order quickly, so I even left having a wee chuckle. What a fantastic restaurant, I cannot recommend it more highly. Cheers :)
