They managed to accommodate us pretty quickly even though the place was really busy, great start of the day by their helpful and friendly team. 🙏🏽 Excellent coffees and selection of herbal teas. Food was 10/10 😋🤤 spectacular poached eggs, cooked to perfection along side the amazing Greek sweets. We will definitely come back. Thank You to Opson staff 👌🏽🙌🏽
I spent two weeks traveling around Scotland and had the chance to try many different restaurants and cafes. I also travel a lot in general and have lived in several countries across Europe and Asia, so I have experienced many different cuisines/cafes. Despite all of that, I can say that Opson was the best restaurant/cafe I visited in all of Scotland. In fact, even on a global scale, it ranks among the greatest cafe experiences of my life! Unfortunately, I was only in Glasgow for a short time. Otherwise, I would have happily worked my way through the entire menu! I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to visit twice. The owner, who is also the chef, clearly puts his heart and soul into every dish. You can taste his passion in the carefully selected ingredients, the outstanding quality, and the incredible attention to detail. A special thank you as well to the lovely red-haired waitress, who was always warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. She even came over to let us know that the chicken was halal, which was such a thoughtful gesture and something that surprised and delighted us. Even the details make this place special. They serve a small glass of ice cubes alongside your tea, so you can cool it down if you prefer, make your own iced tea, or simply enjoy it immediately without having to wait for it to cool. Such a simple yet incredibly thoughtful idea, absolutely genius. And the food..what can I say? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish had incredible depth of flavour, beautifully balanced, and thoughtfully composed. The value for money is great - not just by Scottish standards, but internationally as well. The portions are generous, healthy, and made with high-quality ingredients. The served coffee deserves a special mention. It had an incredibly smooth, rounded flavour, perfectly balanced. Knowing it comes from a Scottish roastery made it even more special. The eggs with smoked salmon were pure perfection. The eggs were poached exactly right, with beautifully runny yolks, and they certainly dont skimp on the salmon. The quality of the fish was exceptional. The eggs with avocado and feta were just as impressive. They were generous with both the avocado and the feta, the eggs were once again perfectly poached, and everything was seasoned so harmoniously that every bite felt perfectly balanced. And then there was the salad.. Simply wonderful. Fresh strawberries, beetroot, delicious goats cheese, and walnuts - an absolutely dreamy combination. The only tiny thing I would personally love would be if the goats cheese were lightly caramelised or flambeed.. but thats just me being picky! 😄 Finally, the French toast. OMG. Even on its own, without any toppings, the French toast is unbelievable. The texture is incredibly light, fluffy, delicate, and perfectly balanced. It has just the right amount of sweetness - subtle enough that it complements all the delicious toppings instead of overpowering them. Honestly, I could happily eat the French toast completely plain because it tastes that good. Of course, together with the pistachio cream and the fresh fruit, it is an absolute dream, but the toast itself deserves all the praise. I genuinely dont know how you have managed to make something so simple taste so extraordinary. I already miss Opson and sincerely hope the wonderful owner can continue running this little gem for many years to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving us such an unforgettable experience. ❤️ If I ever find myself anywhere near the region again, I would gladly make the trip to Glasgow just to eat here once more. What a splendid place! I had the pistachio French toast, and it was the best French toast I’ve ever had! Huge compliments to Theo, who prepared it perfectly. The portion size was generous and very filling, and the balance of everything on the plate worked really well - wasn’t too sweet. Victoria was a fantastic waitress - friendly, attentive, and incredibly sweet, making the experience even more enjoyable. Great food, great service, and a menu that looks full of amazing options. I’ll definitely be back!
Let me start by saying that I do not hand out five star reviews lightly. Places like Opson are genuinely rare, and I only wish more cafes around the world aspired to this level of quality, hospitality, and atmosphere. The portion sizes are wonderfully generous. You leave feeling satisfied and very much aware that you have received excellent value for your money. One standout for me was the poached eggs with salmon. The kitchen is not stingy with the salmon, which made for a hearty and satisfying meal packed with flavour and substance. The coffee deserves special mention as well. It is among the best I have had anywhere. The large oat milk cappuccino was exceptional and one I will be thinking about after this visit. What truly elevates the experience, however, is the service. Everyone I interacted with was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger a little longer. If I were handing out Michelin stars, I would gladly give this place two. It is absolutely worth going out of your way to visit, not only for the excellent food and coffee, but for the wonderful energy and sense of care that make Opson such a memorable experience.
