Description

Day 1 begins with a scenic 3.5-hour drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow to Kennacraig on the Kintyre Peninsula. From there, you take the ferry to Islay. Upon arrival at Port Askaig, you visit Caol Ila Distillery, located above the rocky shoreline with views of the Paps of Jura. Caol Ila offers a relaxed tasting experience of three drams emphasizing its elegant, smoky character.

On Day 2, the tour heads to Islay’s southern coast to visit Ardbeg Distillery, known for its deeply peated single malts. A five-whisky tasting flight is included. Then, nearby Laphroaig Distillery is explored, featuring traditional floor maltings and coastal warehouses, ending with a dram. There is an optional coastal walk between distilleries with sea views, peat bogs, ruins, and grazing sheep along the path.

Day 3 visits Bunnahabhain Distillery, recognized for unpeated, gently sherried whiskies, sampling three drams in its historic setting. Next is Kilchoman Distillery on a working farm near Machir Bay. Kilchoman, one of the island’s newest distilleries, produces vibrant, youthful Islay whiskies with a tasting included.

Day 4 starts with an early ferry back to Kennacraig, followed by a scenic drive south to Campbeltown. Here, Springbank Distillery provides an in-depth tour covering three whisky styles—Springbank, Hazelburn, and Longrow—concluded with a tasting. Afterward, there is time to explore Campbeltown before returning to Glasgow or Edinburgh.
